Durable and beautiful, a copper chafer is an essential piece of equipment for any fancy even where catering or self-service is needed.

What the heck is a chafer? It is a large, decorative container used to keep food warm during dinner parties, weddings, and other events. The chafer is made of copper and is usually ornately decorated with detailed engravings. Copper chafers are typically heated with either gas or electric, and the food is placed in the bottom portion of the chafer to keep it warm.

Too busy to serve everyone? Copper chafers offer an elegant and durable solution to self-service events. The copper material is resistant to corrosion and is able to withstand constant use. The material is also easy to clean and maintain, making it ideal for larger events.

Wash and immediately dry your copper items after use to prevent spotting! When not dried immediately, spotting can occur due to the trace amounts of chemicals in your tap water that can cause a reaction with the copper. Some people don't mind this spotting; they will actually let it build up on the cup over time into a matte patina finish that many folks find appealing. If you prefer the original bright shine from when you first got your Sertodo Copper hand hammered products, don't worry! You can easily return them to that original condition with a quick polish.

Master Artisan Jonathan Beall is the founder of Sertodo Copper. In the fall of 1997, he started working with Copper in Mexico and selling it throughout the United States from the back of his truck. He apprenticed for 2 years in Santa Clara del Cobre located in the Sierra Madres Occidental of Michoacan. This small town has an unbroken tradition of copper work that goes back over 1000 years.

After his apprenticeship, he started a workshop in Austin, T.X. which has grown significantly from that first simple, dirt floor, 2 person space. But his commitment to his copper craft and the commitment to all of their families, friends and customers who make Sertodo Copper a reality remains unwavering.
